I just found out that Cerphe aired his last show last friday.

Anyone who listened to Rock in the D.C. area will know who he was.

Man am I depressed!

Washington Rock radio will not be the same!.

I heard that one of the local stations became a latin music station last week. Was that his station?

[edit] OK, not a change to a Latin station (as was the case with WHFS) but to a more mainstream contemporary station. See:

Though I probably haven't heard Cerph in 20+ years I would recognize him in a second. Possibly the coolest jock ever. I remember hearing him spin cuts from Springsteen's Born to Run & thinking Bruce sure can't sing but I still like him. Though there is no money in it, our local public radio station is the best. Much like WHFS reincarnated.

What was the history of D.C. album rock stations?
1st WHFS (homegrown radio). Didn't WAVA (105 fm?) go to album rock for a while? Then 107 something? - all before DC101?

If you go to cerphe.com, you'll find out what he's up to. Warning, this website is visually bombastic, so if you're epileptic, stay away. He's on some station called ecoplanetradio.com Haven't exactly figured out what that means...

He was the coolest DJ in D.C. I grew up listening to him in the mid 1970's on WAVA mostly. You could call him up and shoot the breeze about anything rock and roll (even taking the time to talk about The Doors to a 14 year old punk - me!).

I heard he has amassed one of the biggest vinyl collections ever.
